This antique 2-gallon stoneware butter churn features a classic cream-colored Bristol glaze accented by a hand-painted cobalt blue band and a bold cobalt "2" capacity marking. It includes a matching stoneware lid with a center opening for a traditional wooden dasher (dasher not included).
A classic piece of American country kitchen history, this churn makes an excellent addition to primitive, farmhouse, and antique stoneware collections. The clean glazed interior and traditional form make it equally appealing as a display piece.
The churn body rings clearly when tapped and no structural cracks or repairs were observed. Both molded side lug handles are intact. The matching lid has several tight hairline cracks radiating from the center dasher opening, along with minor glaze flakes and edge wear consistent with age and long-term use.
